The willow tree is a symbol of resilience, flexibility, and renewal.
The willow bends without breaking, adapts to changing conditions, and continues to grow — even after difficult seasons. In many traditions, the willow is also connected to emotional depth, intuition, and healing
This reflects my approach to therapy:
A process of gently supporting you through life’s challenges, while connecting with your capacity to adapt, heal, and grow in your own way.
You may feel overwhelmed or lost within your struggles. Or perhaps you feel like you understand your struggles, and yet you still find yourself repeating them. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, stress, overwhelm, grief, chronic illness, or life transitions, it can feel exhausting to carry so much on your own. I offer trauma-informed therapy that supports you in understanding your patterns, processing what’s been difficult, and reconnecting with a way of living that feels more aligned and meaningful.

About Me
My name is Crystal Maloney
Hello there. Let me introduce myself. With over two decades of experience in counselling, social work, and community-based roles, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside people during some of the most complex and vulnerable times in their lives — including grief, illness, trauma, relational challenges, and major life transitions.
As we move through life, we can encounter painful and challenging life experiences. Even when we have the desire to seek balance, change, and grow, we may face difficulties or barriers in life that can impede this process. Problems can manifest in our lives that affect different areas of functioning. We might have trouble with thoughts, feelings, behaviours, relationships, or the functioning of our body; however, these areas of functioning interconnect. A change in one area can impact others
I have a natural way of supporting individuals through life’s challenges, offering empathy, respect, genuine positive regard, and authenticity. I bring a warm, grounded, and collaborative approach to therapy. My work is rooted in the belief that your experiences, emotions, and patterns make sense in the context of your life, and in the context of how your nervous system has adapted to survive day to day. Together, we create a space where you can feel heard, respected, and supported at your own pace.
I am currently completing my graduate degree, a Master of Counselling in Counselling Psychology, and I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Social Work in 2002. I bring both professional training and lived experience into my work. Having personally navigated significant loss and chronic illness, I understand how life can shape not only emotions, but identity, relationships, and the way we move through the world. This perspective continues to inform the depth of care and presence I bring to each session.

My Approach
My approach is integrative, trauma-informed, and client-centred.
This means I draw from primary, evidence informed approaches and I integrate additional skills and techniques that are applicable to your unique story. We may explore:
-
Ways to respond to challenges with greater flexibility and self-understanding
-
The nervous system states: how fight, flight, and freeze or shutdown responses impact your moment to moment functioning
-
Coping skills and grounding tools
-
How past experiences continue to impact the present
-
Patterns that keep showing up in your life
-
The connection between your thoughts, emotions, and body sensations.
I draw from several approaches, including Trauma Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (TFACT) and Brainspotting, which allow us to work not only through conversation, but also with sensations, and deeper, nonverbal or subcortical experiences held in the brain and body.
Therapy with me is collaborative and flexible. We move at a pace that feels supportive and respectful of your capacity. Healing is not linear. We may move back and forth through some or all four phases of therapy during our work together.
1)Beginning Therapy
2) Healing the Present
3) Healing the Past
4) Building the Future
You don’t have to have everything figured out to begin. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply wanting to understand yourself more deeply, therapy can be a place to start. I offer a free 15 minute consultation to chat and see if we are a good fit to work together. Click contact now to inquire about a free consultation.
